Would a Donkey Eat a Straw Hat?

Yeah, I'll let you think about the title for a bit.

So, I'm back from the dead of "people who used to blog a fair amount and now have suddenly stopped blogging" graveyard. I've been occupied. I'm alright, don't you worry your pretty little faces.

What I've been doing these past two weeks
1) Catch-up on homework because of a glorious week spent in Mexico
2) Sleep
3) A little bit o' volleyball. (P.S. Our team can't finish a game for the life of us when it's tied up at 23's)
4) Lots and lots of Warcraft (lots and lots and lots and lots)

I've discovered the glorious world which I left for four months this Christmas while trying to get Brian nice gear for his character. Since those two weeks I've been playing far too much, and it's been positively glorious and fulfilling. Would this account for the total lack of contact that I've had with my fellow human beings in my social circles (possibly and octagon)? I would like to think not, and alas, I don't think it is the case.

Blogging must pick up, along with emails sent. So, I hope I can do that.

A side note:
FVCHS is doing some pretty cool things as of late. They're trying to raise funds for building a school in Sierra Leone so that the children there may have the privilege of getting an education. Their goal is to raise $25,000 and with the help of others, it's very attainable. Check out their website for mailing adress and additional info. Also, check out Matt's blog for more of a personal look on who this school can touch.

Peace out all, I'll try to keep the blogs coming, but such is life. I'm sorry if the response to the emails has been lacking. Giraffe.

I'll also try to write something up about Mexico and my vacation in BC. (???)

Music and Soul

Yeah, I died a bit on the blogging during the holidays. Back now, so more blogs a' comin'. Short one to start off, I'll have a recap of my adventures later on during the week and I'll tell you about our guardian whales that protected us.

Have emotions? So do I. Need a way to vent/show your emotions? Talk to another human being. No humans around? Listen to some music and go nuts. The following are a few of the songs that meet the mood of my emotion and compliment them fantastically. Along are also some actions you are able to do with these songs.

Emotion or Mood: Sad
Song: Mr. Jones Part II - Ben Folds, from "Rockin' the Suburbs"
Action: Cry

Emotion or Mood: Relaxed
Song: Anything from "Agaetis Byrjun" by Sigur Ros
Action: Nap/Read

Emotion or Mood: Angry/Frustrated
Song: Second Best - Pedro the Lion, from "Control"
Action: Dance aggressively (lots of flailing limbs and head bobbing)or scream

Emotion or Mood: Happy
Song: Better Together - Jack Johnson, from "In Between Dream"
Action: Driving in the sun while smiling

Emotion or Mood: Not knowing what to do or say (more so than confused)
Song: What Sarah Said - Death Cab for Cutie, from "Plans"
Action: Maybe a comforting shoulder tap or gentle back rub

There will be more like this on future blogs, maybe a every blog from here out. But, we both know that it's going to fade like a night elf using shadowmeld, or possibly a rogue that's about to backstab, I'm not sure which one fits the best.

Things are going great. I'm relaxed, playing lot of warcraft, eating tasty food and enjoying the warm weather. That is all.

Killing time

I'm bored, sick of studying, and waiting for 20 minutes to pass before calc is done. So, I'd like to take this time to apologize. As the wise scribe Joel Vanhove once typed in an email, "I'm sure you're all wondering why I'm emailing, because you know guys don't just send emails to keep in touch." This however is no excuse for the lack of emails sent on my end concerning my friends out home. Joel Vanhove...wise guy. Smells a bit like cabbage, but I'm sure he'll find a way to cover up that odor. I'll be home in a week, so I'll see vous (you plural en francais) in a week.

No Countdown!

Hey guys, I only have 187 more hours till I come home? Or, wait... was it 189? Maybe the square root of 34447.36? Oh, I don't know anymore. No more countdowns except for exams left. Three...woot! So now, what's all this talk about school. Aren't there better things to talk about? Yes, two in fact.

1) Jesse Dostal urinated his pants in my room last night for five dollars. I would not have put this on my blog, but Stevo thought it was a must, and Jesse didn't seem to object. Anj, please don't tell Nan.

2) We have a recording studio on the top of the stairs to the left. Yes, my room. It's fantastic, and we're trying to make beautiful music. The lyrics might suggest that I'm a cannibal, and that I live with some odd smelling people, but take heart. I'm just a silly guy. The real lyrics will be coming soon to that song once we mixed everything to sound pretty... and once we have lyrics. I hope it's good.

Une protection durable contre les odeurs avec un parfum frais et masculin

Exams = Underway

I just finished writing my religion exam and it went well. The class of Religion 101 was an interesting one. A lot of good material to learn, not very well presented and oddly tested. I didn't have to go to a single class or write down any notes if I chose to do so and I think my exam would have turned out exactly the same. I didn't even crack open my notes for studying. Interesting.

I would also like to make a recommendation for all those studying for exams. Please, please, listen to good music while you go over your notes. It seriously makes all the difference. I listened to Norah Jones "Feels like Home" and Ben Folds "Rockin' the Suburbs." Your brain connects certain events with whatever is around it. For example, when I smell fires, I think of camping at Shushwap with the fam and of glorious BC mountains and lakes. When I think of which King of Judah did evil in the eyes of the Lord (which was most of them oddly enough) I think of "Still Fighting it" by Ben Folds. Nice tool, I enjoy it fully and it's good music.

Things I want to do/want/want to learn:
1) Chill with the Fam
2) Play jazz piano (oh Norah, like glucose in my ear)
3) Play volleyball against this years FVC team
4) Listen to Peter Klomp's stories about Cooper's this year
5) Go sledding at midnight
6) Learn to play the cello or violin (string are just cool)
7) Marry Norah Jones
8) Finish writing exams
9) Buy a dressy scarf so I can be like Josh VanBerkel (ooooh, that well dressed jerk, makes me look so bad)
10) Learn how to draw or take nice photographs

A Formation of a People

Quick review of Narnia: TLWatW
Alsan: Powerful, but too safe (I'm just bitter they didn't have my line in the movie)
Kids: Well cast, innocent enough to be in a fantasy world
Edmund: Little punk that represents so many of us
Entering Narnina: Magical
Mr. Tumnus: Classic, one of the images that stuck in my mind from reading the book
The Beavers: Well represented characters, funny, and add a lot
Battle scene: Good, not gory, but it accomplished what it set out to do
Peter: Well played, brave, dreamy(?)
Witches minions: Obviously the graphic and art design on the Narnia team play warcraft, and it doesn't look like a minotaur...
Overall: 3 out of 5

Safe?

"Wrong will be right, when Aslan comes in sight,
At the sound of his roar, sorrows will be no more,
When he bares his teeth, winter meets its death,
And when he shakes his mane, we shall have spring again.

You'll understand when you see him," said Mrs. Beaver.
"But shall we see him?" asked Susan.
"Why, Daughter of Eve, that's what I brought you here for. I'm to lead you where you shall me him," said Mr. Beaver.
"Is - is he a man?" asked Lucy.
"Aslan a man!" said Mr. Beaver sternly. "Certainly not. I tell you he is the King of the wood and the son of the great Emperor-beyond-the-sea. Don't you know who is the King of Beasts? Aslan is a lion - the Lion, the great Lion."
"Ooh!" said Susan, "I'd thought he was a man. Is he - quite safe? I shall feel rather nervous about meeting a lion."
"That you will, dearie, and no mistake," said Mrs. Beaver; "if there's anyone who can appear before Aslan without their knees knocking, they're either braver than most or else just silly."
"Then he isn't safe?" said Lucy.
"Safe?" said Mr. Beaver; "don't' you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? 'Course he isn't safe. But he's good. He's the King, I tell you."

From "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe"
I've got my tickets for tomorrow night. Woot!

Trees and Their Open Branches

Update time!
Finals are next week, and I didn't really realize it. They "snuck up" on me metaphorically, which is funny, because finals are just going to be pieces of paper with ink on them in the form of questions. How can inky paper sneak up on you. I doubt that paper or ink has any will to say to itself, "I shall sneak up on this student. Oh, sweet glory, I shall sneak up indeed!" That is why I put "snuck up" in quotations and mentioned it as a metaphor. Ink and paper... no will. Oddly enough, a physical will for a person is usually written on paper with ink describing who gets what, so maybe ink and paper is a will in itself. Thus we can conclude that although ink and paper have no mindful will themselves, they can be a will for someone else, or more likely, another piece of paper with ink on it. So, maybe the finals that snuck up on me are not going on their own will, but instead on the will of other pieces of paper, possibly receipts or magazine articles.

D14 got a gamecube on a spur of the moment "we need to play more Mario games" shopping spree. So Steve and Jesse bought one. A day after Steve wanted another game, so he traded in some PS2 games, including Jesse's beloved Madden '06, to buy a wrestling game. Jesse wasn't a fan, but he's found a way to get what he wants. An item on Jesse's Christmas list : Madden '06 for Gamecube.

Volleyball has been going pretty alright okay. We've won 4 strait and just finished up winning a tourny yesterday in Niagara (falls... hahahahaha). The tourny was poorly organized and in turn we had an odd schedule. We played at 8 on Saturday morning (which we had to leave the school at 6:15 for) and then won very quickly. We were done before 9 and awaited for our next game which was to be at 6 pm. Such is life. I now consider myself a professional athlete however. We were giving 25 dollars each for the weekend as food money. I didn't spend most of my money, and I now have a made a profit from playing a sport. I'm entering my name into the NBA '06 draft this upcoming year.

Congrats to the FVC boys who came in 3rd. See you guys in a couple of weeks.

Volleyball

FVCHS Sr. Boys Volleyball took off this morning for provincials. They are ranked second in the province heading into the championship behind LCS. You can check out what's going on at the BC Boys Volleyball website. Let's hope that they'll be able to do what hasn't been done for a while for FVC and bring home the blue banner. Good luck guys. I'll be posting results on my comments for people to check out.

Witter Ugwar

I saw Harry Potter last night, and as an avid fan, I was quite happy. Actually, the entire theater seemed very happy, and the ambiance was fantastic. On happy parts, people cheered, funny parts they laugh, and when Ron was on the screen, the girls sighed in love. It was good for the first 75% or so, but it defiantly gets dark in the last bit, even more so then what I thought the book did. I guess I'll have to re-read it.

Come December 22nd (when I arrive where mountains live), I think it would be ever so cool to have a volleyball game with this years #1 ranked Sr. Boys team against the alumnus of previous years. Maybe a game on an evening where we can have a crowed and enjoy the good ol' times when we played together. I think that would be grand. And be a ghost, you'll never go to jail.

Please Complete and Attach a Void Cheque

It's 1:39 in the morning, I have a calculus test tomorrow which I've studied very little for. I just spent my night playing volleyball, watching some homemade videos by the best Mario Cart player I've ever seen in my life (Ryan Gelleynse) and playing N64. We're also making Jello like a factory...I think we have 3 bins setting outside with more on the way. Why so much Jello? I can't tell you that. Can't believe you even asked. Pfft. It's snowing here, so outside was better and more spacious than the fridge. So, should I study calc? Probably not...I'll be up till 4 tonight anyways. The internet is now working very well in the dorms too because Redeemer took the hint and got a new server. I can now play Warcraft, and with thanks to my shaman buddy Dumar (Johnny), I now have my very own Whirlwind Axe. I'm pretty happy with that, and things are going well. Well, I guess I better eat some Jello now...snicker.

P.S. Thank you for the peppermints and mentos.

Count Dracula

My brother is in a band called Love and Wolves. They are a good band, and well presented at all shows. They have two songs that people can listen to online if they want too.
1) Count Dracula.
2) Maybe It's None of Us.
You can also check them out on my spaces here. Check them out,
you'll
be
glad
you
did.

What are you doing here?

We looked at this for dorm devo's tonight. Pretty cool. You could read the previous chapter too to get a better feel of what Elijah went through.

1 Kings 19:1-13
1 Now Ahab told Jezebel everything Elijah had done and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. 2 So Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah to say, "May the gods deal with me, be it ever so severely, if by this time tomorrow I do not make your life like that of one of them."
3 Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, 4 while he himself went a day's journey into the desert. He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. "I have had enough, LORD," he said. "Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors." 5 Then he lay down under the tree and fell asleep. All at once an angel touched him and said, "Get up and eat." 6 He looked around, and there by his head was a cake of bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again.
7 The angel of the LORD came back a second time and touched him and said, "Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you." 8 So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. 9 There he went into a cave and spent the night.
The LORD Appears to Elijah And the word of the LORD came to him: "What are you doing here, Elijah?"
10 He replied, "I have been very zealous for the LORD God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, broken down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too."
11 The LORD said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by." Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"

Last One

Alrighty, there was a little bit of a gap between posts, and now I have to finish off the "who I live with" marathon. This is the last guy, and yes, he's not technically "in" our dorm, but it defiantly feels like he is, so we'll call him Josh "honorable member" VanBerkel.

Josh VanBerkel
Height: 6'11"
Weight: 165
Hometown: 15 minute drive from campus, ON
Eyes: Blue/green
Hair: Brown
Quality is what I will say about this fellow. He's kind, easy to talk to, and very well dressed. He's actually so well dressed that he wore a suit and had a clipboard when he was our coach for intramural ball hockey. Very cool. He went to HDCH like a lot of other guys, and I'm not sure what he's studying, but I'm going to say business, just because I think he needs a field where he can show off his metrosexuality. He's generally just a fun guy who likes to have a good time, and he is, technically speaking, part of dorm 14. Woot.

Me and You, and You and Me

Ok then, quick flashback. Who of you remember Ernest? You know, "Ernest goes to Hollywood, Ernest Halloween Special, Ernest goes to a Remote Island?" Well, "Ernest goes to Camp" is probably my favorite, because they shoot snapping turtles at the guys who were coming at them will malicious actions. Heh, a turtle even bit a guys ear, and they had mini parachutes...how cool is that?

I got my hair cut. I went from a rugged stallion with long flowing hair and a vicious beard that could make a girl faint from the pure sight of it, to a clean cut stereotypical guy who is between the ages of 13-30 in North America. If I dyed my hair blonde and was to wear generalized collared polo shirts, you would mistake me as a student of Langley Christian. Oh, glory.

I had my hair shaved off in October of my grade 11 year during volleyball, and I had the stunning resemblance to Kurt Angle. Ah yes, Chapman, embarrassing me in front of my chemistry class. Mr. Kim lost all respect for me that day. (By the way, if teachers read this, leave a footprint so I know that you swing by.)

So, the following may shock you, and you might not even recognize me. My RA had no idea who I was till about a minute after I first walked into my dorm. Oh dad, you don't even know your own son. So, here's the pictures. If you like it, thank Adrienne for pushing me to do it. If you liked the rugged wild James better, blame Adrienne, she forced me to do it.

Randall

That crazy Randall kid, still don't have his picture, so you guys just won't be able to see what he looks like. Such is life.

Randall Benbow
Height: 5' 11"
Weight: 155 lbs
From: Hickson (I think), ON
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Brown
Randall is an amazing guy. He is dad's room mate, and is a second year. We call him Mamma Rand. I guess that's fitting. He brings a maturity to the dorm which is irreplaceable. He lives out his life as he says he does, and it is evident that he love Christ. He plans to be a minister. He likes playing hockey, Tiger Woods Golf (05' mind you, not that crappy '03 version we have) and is very neat. He is a servant and you can find him sometimes cleaning up the house even when it's not his chore. It's very easy to talk to him about anything, and he's pretty full of knowledge on the topic of baseball, so, if you like baseball......go talk to mom.
Quick question. Gabe (or anyone who may know this), if you read this, you said that you have a relative who pitches for the Oakland A's right? Confirm if this is true. Oi!
