Gettin' Jiggy Wit It

With the inspiring poetry of Will Smith,

"Bring it. Woo Uh, uh, uh, uh. Ha ha, ha ha. What, what, what, what. Uh. On your mark, ready set let's go. Dance floor pro, I know you know I go psycho when my new joint hit. Just can't sit, Gotta get jiggy wit it, Ooh that's it!"

Wow, what a great song. Seriously, I don't think there's another song that has such a danceable intro. So this past weekend we had a little bit of a shin dig. Let me break it down slow for you, possibly as slow as a transfer of genetic information between two E. coli bacterium of strain F+ and F-. Ryan G. (not big Tim, Adam) and I missed the "Decade Dance", one of 'Deems events for first years where you can get jiggy with it as long as there's no disco dancing. We then sobbed and even mourned a little about the fact that we didn't break it down. We then had an idea, nay, a revelation. Our thoughts melded into one, creating a legendary thought to have a dance on our porch. But alas! there was little room on our porch. A shortsighted squire I was, for I had neglected the fact that I live in D34, the most prime spot of all campus to hold an event. Off the front of our porch there grows two majestic trees, remnants of a once enchanted glade perceivable only in the minds of children and in the hearts of RPG gamers. These glorious trees were perpendicular and parallel to each other and our porch, making the perfect boxed shape. Oh, but people, it was more than that! There was one lone tree even further yet that could be utilized. Yes, it is true that the splendor of this tree was not as the others, most likely because of an ancient hex put on it by a powerful magical being, or possibly a stray shovel into its roots by an inexperienced landscaper. But alas, this tree would serve a purpose. It would make a triangle with the other trees, and thus making our dance floor a pentagon of sorts.

And oh, my people, the decorations! A line of rope was strapped sturdily to the porch, and wrapped around said trees to make a clothesline of sorts, and from that line hung clothes that were fit to hold garbage. Silver starts shot from the trees branches, and icicle lights gleamed as they dangled in the air. And big Tim (there you are Adam) came and offered us an audio splitter. This lead to two computer speaker sets, totaling six speakers and two subs, to be linked into mine own computer. The speakers were strung up outside to the dance floor and to the gutter overlooking the dance floor. And, as the last pieces fell into place, a magnificent playlist was made, consisting of epics from the 90's, ranging from Savage Garden to S-Club, to Will Smith and even Michael Jackson's "Free Willie" tune. With all these pieces created, the puzzle was in existence, ready to be put together by people ready and willing to "get down" metaphorically speaking. This event was of course a formal to semi-formal evening. There were door prizes, a Fall Ball King and Queen, and much dancing to be had. Quite possibly the most glorious night thus far at Redeemer, and although we lied about it being the 16th Annual, we have a feeling there will be a 17th next year.
