Alright. I know the Bible is the word of God and that it is absolutely amazing. But one thing I always kind of like is when I come across a verse where sit with my jaw open just because the verse seems a bit obscure or random. Let's quickly put this into context. Leviticus is the book of the law and gives regulations to worship. There's a section starting at chapter 11 that deals with how you are clean or unclean. Fairly interesting. But then it goes into a section on becoming unclean due to skin diseases, which again, is fine. Actually, it's pretty interesting. But the last part in chapter 13 stuck out to me as kind of funny.
40 "When a man has lost his hair and is bald, he is clean. 41 If he has lost his hair from the front of his scalp and has a bald forehead, he is clean. 42 But if he has a reddish-white sore on his bald head or forehead, it is an infectious disease breaking out on his head or forehead. 43 The priest is to examine him, and if the swollen sore on his head or forehead is reddish-white like an infectious skin disease, 44 the man is diseased and is unclean. The priest shall pronounce him unclean because of the sore on his head.
45 "The person with such an infectious disease must wear torn clothes, let his hair be unkempt, cover the lower part of his face and cry out, 'Unclean! Unclean!' 46 As long as he has the infection he remains unclean. He must live alone; he must live outside the camp."
First off, nobody in the rest of the chapter with a skin disease needed to look like a hobo and act schitzo screaming out "unclean!" Secondly, the guy is already bald, why rub it in by saying "let his hair be unkempt"? Lastly, because you're bald and have a red spot on your head the next step does seems to isolate the guy. I had a good chuckle at all this.
