Death Cab

This past evening I went to see a Death Cab show in Toronto. It was a splendid time spent with Brian, Mark and Laura. Brian had bought the tickets a couple months ago and slowly but surely the day came where I would see Ben and his cronies.

We arrived and entered the hockey arena turned stage. The venue, as even Franz Ferdinand expressed, was terrible, but it didn't take much away from the night from my point of view.

The opening band was called "The Cribs" and they were from England. Typical punky stuff without much originality in my honest opinion. Next was Franz. They were tight, but their music isn't quite my style, so it seemed like forever until Death Cab came. At last they did.

They opened up with Ben Gibbard on the piano playing Passenger Seat followed by Different Names. Then they played Title and Registration which had an interesting twist to it: The arena fire alarm went off. Someone must have pulled it, which made the band confused and maybe a bit frustrated. They weren't allowed to shut it off either until the Toronto Fire Dept. got there which also took a while. Neat.

The final three songs were epic. I Will Follow You Into the Dark followed by The Sound of Settling. The final song was Transatlanticism. Unbelievable and fantastic. I would encourage anyone who's in the Vancouver area to snag some tickets for the 28th of April. There's still some available according to the site and it's at the PNE. Franz closes that night it seems.
